Curriculum

Required Courses

  1. two 10 week (total of 20 weeks) modular clean energy science and technology lecture courses (EE 279AS & MAE 298)
  2. a 10 week modular clean energy experimental laboratory course (Chem 221A)
  3. a policy and ethics lecture course entitled “California Sustainability Challenges” (not yet assigned)
  4. an IP and Business Development lecture course (not yet assigned)
  5. a bi-weekly Leaders in Sustainability Seminar Series (ESE 277)

Brown Bag Meetings

Attendance of CGI brown bag meetings is required. (EE 279CS)

Internship

Completion of a 1-3 month cross-disciplinary internship with an industrial partner or national laboratory, in the US or abroad, (usually begins after completion of the first year of the CGI), is encouraged. Internships must be approved by the CGI Internship Committee well in advance of the project.

Mentoring

Mentoring and supervising summer undergraduate student(s) or high school student.

Outreach

It is expected that all CGI trainees will participate in the CNSI High School NanoScience Program.

Annual Symposium

CGI trainees give oral and/or written presentations and participate in the full day's activities at the annual CGI symposium while they are trainees and in the year following completion of the formal traineeship.
